Shona Macdonald received her MFA in 1996 in studio arts from the University of Illinois at Chicago and her BFA in 1992 from Glasgow School of Art in Scotland. She has exhibited internationally at the Ballina Art Center, Ireland; Engine Room in Wellington, New Zealand;  Glenbow Art Museum, Canada and Galerie Refugium in Berlin, Germany. She has also held selected solo shows at the Zillman Art Museum, ME; Brattleboro Art Center and Museum, VT; Roswell Art Museum, NM; Gridspace, Brooklyn, New York; Proof Gallery, Boston, MA; Reeves Contemporary, NY, NY; Den Contemporary, LA, CA; Skestos-Gabriele, Chicago IL, and Fassbender Gallery, Chicago IL. Reviews of her work are published in Art in America; Art News; LA Times; Chicago Tribune; Chicago Sun Times; Sacramento Bee; Boston Globe; Artscope, Harpers Magazine and New American Paintings.  She has been a Visiting Artist at over fifty institutions, including Wimbledon College of Art; Georgia State University; Cornell University; the University of Alberta, and the University of Calgary.  She is the recipient of grants from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, Illinois Arts Council and the Massachusetts Cultural Council. She has been artist-in-resident at Roswell;  Can Serrat, Spain; Cromarty Arts Trust, Scotland; Ballinglen, Ireland; Ragdale Foundation and the Virginia Center for Contemporary Art.  Her work is published in several books including ‘Silverpoint and Metalpoint Drawing’; ‘The Performing Observer,’ and ‘Beyond Critique: Contemporary Art in Theory, Practice and Instruction.’
